Body Rider BRD2000 Elliptical Trainer with Seat Review

Body Rider BRD2000 Elliptical Trainer with Seat
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I ordered this based on the price and the fact that it had a seat as well as the arm bars I read the reviews of more expensive models and had a bit of anxiety towards putting it together. It only took about an hour and as long as you use your own tools and not the dollar store rejects they give you should have no problems.
I am giving this only three stars based on 2 things, First I am 6foot tall and when I use it as an elliptical its a bit tight and I do tend to punch myself a little when it comes back but I solved that by reversing them.
The other reason is also the handles being a little short. It feels like I'm punching downward instead of parallel. This machine is definitely designed for smaller men or women. but, besides that I do get a decent workout on it. Overall if you're looking for a value I would recommend this.

Enjoy a total body cardio workout without trudging to the gym day after day with the Body Rider BRD2000 dual cardio trainer. The BRD2000 is actually two fitness machines in one, with a pair of elliptical arms and foot pedals for upright elliptical use, as well as an adjustable seat that turns the machine into an exercise bike. As a result, users can vary their workout routines depending on the goals they're trying to achieve. The BRD2000 is built around a chain-driven fan wheel, with high-momentum fan blades that run quietly and smoothly without impacting your knees. (The fan also produces a gentle breeze as you exercise.) The electronic console, meanwhile, makes it easy to track your workout, with measurements for time, speed, distance, and calories burned. Finally, the unit's seat adjusts vertically and horizontally to fit users of different heights and weights. Too busy to hit the gym on a regular basis? The BRD2000 will help you see results in only 20 minutes per day three or four times a week.
About Elliptical Trainers Elliptical trainers represent the next wave of advancement in low-impact cardiovascular exercise machines and continue to grow in popularity. By simulating motions experienced through walking, stepping, cycling, and skiing, elliptical machines allow for a smooth and fluid motion while building strength in the arms and legs. Similar to the exercise position for treadmills, elliptical trainers are used by standing in an upright position while holding the handrails of the machine. With elliptical trainers, however, your feet remain in the foot pedals throughout the exercise regimen and circulate in a smooth and seamless motion, resulting in little to no impact on the knees, back, and hips.
Elliptical trainers are compatible for all ages and fitness levels and allow you to select the difficulty level through the incline and intensity settings. Additionally, elliptical trainers allow you to determine the complexity of your workout based on your needs, all while listening to music, watching television, or reading a magazine while exercising in the comfort and safety of your own home.
Although different types of elliptical trainers offer an assortment of features, many of them include an array of challenging programs, forward and reverse directional movement, EKG grip pulse handles, a lightweight portable design with easy fold-up capability, and a monitor displaying calories burned, distance, speed, time, and heart rate. Other types of exercise machines, namely treadmills and bikes, offer excellent cardiovascular exercise and muscular training for the legs in a forward-motion exercise. Elliptical trainers take this to the next level by offering an upper and lower body workout with dual motion, challenging and diverse programs, and a low-impact exercise machine that won't strain sensitive joints.

This elliptical is really a good product. But get ready to put just about everything together, and the instructions were confusing. It was very frustrating, but i finally got it put together.
At first, the bolts were loosening after I used it and I had to use the allen wrench that came with the item to tighten them up; the front lower bottom bolts. Also, I was starting squeaking really bad. But I then lubricated them with oil and surprising, noise, squeaks of any kind vanished and the bolts stayed tighened. I've been using it for about six monthis now at least. I used it about six days a week, 30 minutes. The elliptical works really well. Just wish the handle was a little longer.
Putting it together was a dog though.

Vision Fitness X6250HRT Incline Elliptical Trainer Review

Vision Fitness X6250HRT Incline Elliptical Trainer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This machine will give you a great workout with the electronically adjustable incline, the arms and the ability to stride forward and in reverse. However my wife and I used it every day for ten months, often two hours between us per day, and as time went on it became noisier and noisier, with the console shaking too much to allow for reading and squeaking too loud to listen to music or watch television. The bolts in the post were tightened as much as possible but still the post and the console would shake. Obviously our machine had a defective frame. Whether this was simply a manufacturing defect in our machine or a design defect is an unknown. Nonetheless, Vision to its credit has a very responsive customer service department, worked with us to try to resolve the problem and when that was impossible agreed to take the machine back and shipped us the S7200 HRT suspension elliptical for the difference in price between the two.
Vision's Suspension elliptical is the best I have ever used, and that includes the two vision ellipticals I owned in the past and those top of the line Life Fitness and Precors I have used at health clubs. It is smooth, quiet, allows for an extended stride, a very well designed adjustable incline and is quite simply awesome. One feature we like in the Vision products is the "Sprint 8", which is a twenty minute high intensity interval program (a HIIT program), which I find is really making a difference for both weight control and increasing my fitness level. Having just used a commercial Precor while staying in an Embassy Suites, I find the visions "perfect stride" technology truly is superior to Precor. With the Vision, the articulating footpads keep my feet in a comfortable position throughout the rotation of the elliptical path. On the Precor, they rolled my feet up and down and forced the feet up when the incline was raised to higher levels. Maybe this is something regular Precor users get used to, but I didn't like the movement. The Suspension elliptical is expensive, at $4000 or so with delivery and setup, although you can get it for less today on sale, but worth the money for a long term investment in one's own health.
Edit (April 2, 2010): Through using this machine only, alternating between hour long interval training sessions, and twenty minute high intensity interval training sessions - every third day, six - seven days per week, I am now down to my college weight with virtually no dieting required . . other than avoiding excess sugar. Its been well worth the effort given how well I physically feel at the old age of fifty-five.

Life Fitness X1 Elliptical Cross-Trainer with Advanced Workout Console Review

We've had ours for a few days and couldn't be happier. It doesn't have bells and whistles but I never used these at the health club anyway.
Here's the strong points 1) amazingly quiet (0 decibels), 2) same ergonomics or better than health club version, 3) solid construction (same as X3), and 4) very easy to assemble.
All I can say is wow. Got a good price $1699 for it too. This deal didn't last long (got lucky).

Enjoy a total body workout without venturing off to the gym day after day with the Life Fitness X1 elliptical cross trainer. Life Fitness trainers are recognized by health club operators across the country for their smooth, natural performance. Whereas other elliptical machines often deliver an uneven resistance transfer--producing an uncomfortable, choppy feeling that interrupts the rhythm of your workout--Life Fitness trainers include a patented Link6 drive system that produces a stride that feels as good as walking, a must for low-impact workouts. In addition, the X1 works hard to keep you engaged and focused while you exercise. The advanced workout console offers a host of challenging workout programs, including sport-specific training or interactive heart rate monitoring using the Lifepulse digital hand sensors or Polar wireless chest strap. You can also save the name, age, weight, and workout preferences for multiple users in your household, or create custom workouts for each user.
The X1 accommodates users of all shapes and sizes thanks to its oversized pedals, which ensure that no matter how big, small, wide, or narrow your feet are, you can still expect the same club-quality experience. The pedals are also optimally spaced to minimize the lateral hip shifting that could put stress on your lower back. Best of all, the X1 disperses the efforts throughout both your legs and arms, helping your burn more calories with less perceived exertion. Other features include an ErgoGrip stationary handlebar that provides stability during lower-body-only workouts, a front-mounted bottle holder, a built-in reading rack, a 300-pound capacity, and an easy-to-read LCD display that tracks your distance, speed, calories burned, level, time, heart rate, and target heart rate. Equipped with a welded steel frame, the X1 measures 65 by 62 by 27 inches (W x H x D), weighs 205 pounds, and carries the following warranties: lifetime on the frame, three years on parts, and one year on labor.

Proform Razor 400 ES Elliptical Trainer Review

Proform Razor 400 ES Elliptical Trainer
Average Reviews:

I purchased a Proform 400 series elliptical in December. Since December I have not had a properly working machine. It malfunctioned the first time I tried to use the machine. It was incorrectly assembled by Proform manufacturing and within the first use, I had an electrical malfunction. I made several attempts to contact their customer service (which is by far the worst customer service I have ever dealt with). After days of attempting to contact them and several times of being on hold up to hours at a time, I finally was able to have a service tech come out to take a look at the machine. Within three days of that malfunction being corrected a new problem began. I am a consistent exerciser and thought I could get away this time with buying a cheaper machine. Wrong, the only thing that is thinner is my wallet and the carpet where my broken machine still rests. Bottom line, poorly manufactured equipment and by far the worst customer service I have ever dealt with.

Kettler HKS Vito XL Elliptical Cross Trainer Review

Kettler HKS Vito XL Elliptical Cross Trainer
Average Reviews:

I retired my ancient and boring compact bicycle (also Kettler) in favour of a Cross Trainer after if became my favourite machine at the gym. I am not a fitness fanatic but enjoy a 30-45 min daily workout and in winter, this is as good as it gets. When it comes to home machines, it pays to purchase the best model you can afford. This Trainer mimics the movements of cycling (upright) walking and stepping in one ... and it goes backwards too! The handles provide a decent upper body workout as well. It behaves like a professional machine, very smooth, quiet and sturdy. Foot plates are adjustable and resistance levels can be changed while you exercise. The training computer display is simple to use, easy to read and informative, it even tells you the temperature! I like the bottle holder in front, very handy. Accessories recommended: cardio pulse set. The hand grip sensors take a while to read pulse and as with many machines like this, not entirely accurate. I use a Polar belt & watch which are very reliable. Assembly can be tricky, reading the instructions 2-3 times is recommended plus a little patience. All worth it in the end!

Schwinn A40 Elliptical Trainer Review

This is one great machine. It is very smooth, very stable and extremely well built. It took me a little over two hours to assemble and the assembly directions are very clear and well labeled with one exception. In the assembly directions, it calls for six #B screws when it is obvious they meant #A screws because they were the only ones left in the assembly process. I was worried that I would not be able to assemble it without help but had no trouble assembling it myself. For the money, I don't believe you could get any better quality even in a more expensive machine. I have very bad knees but this workout actually helps them and gives me an excellent full body workout. I recommend the Schwinn A40 to anyone.

Don't waste your money. The machine wobbles too much. The battery cover is made out of cheap plastic. After i placed the batteries in it i couldn't get the cover back on. I called the service department and they sent me a new cover which would also not go on with the batteries in. I had to spend another $30 on n adapter plug. After 2 months of use, the belt came off and will not stay on. Trying to get help from Icon who does the warranty work for Pro-Form is nearly impossible. They make you send them recipts and tell you they call you back and don't.

Body Rider Magnetic Elliptical Trainer Review

Body Rider Magnetic Elliptical Trainer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This type of product was something the wife wanted, so I did a bit of research and noted that this product seemed to be well reviewed for the price. My concern was paying much more for a product that might not end up being used much. As it turns out, I like it too, and can work it into my daily routine, so I doubt it not being used will be an issue.
As to the product, it arrived only in the product box, not any additional shipping container. The box was slightly damaged, but the product was not damaged at all.
The various parts were easy to organize, and assembly took just over an hour. It helped a great deal that all the nuts and bolts were attached to a piece of cardboard and held in place by shrink-wrap, with numbers identifying each part. The only mistake I made in assembly was not realizing that the "feet" needed to have the bolt inserted on the side with the depression. Other than that, everything was very clear in the instructions.
That said, be warned. Although returns are easy with Amazon, I have no idea how you would ever disassemble and repackage this device for shipment back. I think you're more likely to simply have to sell it on Craigslist or some such thing, or perhaps take it to the UPS Store to be professionally packed.
As to the product itself, my only complaint would be that although the movement is fairly smooth, it could probably be smoother. Smoother is probably what you get if you pay 2-3 times more money. Also, at times it does creak, but I haven't tried to address that by re-tightening some of the connections. That issue simply isn't that bad.
The magnetic resistance system works well. The electronic display is pretty well thought out, automatically turning on when you start and turning off a few minutes after you're done. It can be set to alternate between the various readings (time, distance, etc.). The pulse meter requires that you use the stationary bars, and doesn't seem to give that accurate of readings unless you hold it just right. Some sort of a device that attaches to your body by a cord would be preferable, but apparently not available.
Overall this seems like a sturdy, well-designed product, and a good value.
Edit: After using this a few weeks I did tighten up the connections and that helped the creaking significantly. Also with more use I really like the electronic display. It's very no-hassle. You don't even have to turn it on or off, and if you stop for a while it also stops counting the minutes. I think it automatically turns off after about three minutes, so that long of a wait would reset your timer. Anyway, I'm still impressed with the product.

I bought this item some time ago. I thought it would work out well, being small, relatively inexpensive, and seemingly worth the small price tag. Getting the item home, I learned that it simply did not work. Not only was the item shaky and unstable, there was practically no resistance or tension on the pedalling. It felt like you were doing nothing. After a 30 minute workout, I did not break a sweat. I returned the item right away. Save your money.

Weslo Momentum CT 5.9 Elliptical Trainer Review

Weslo Momentum CT 5.9 Elliptical Trainer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This elliptical trainer has worked very well. You do have to retighted the screws after initial use. Then it works GREAT! It has been providing everything that I was looking for in a home elliptical. My husband even stated he wants to start using it. If you are looking for a sensible price for a well-working machine this is it. Plan to spend 3-4 hours putting it together. Read the directions and study the photos very close before installing any screws or you will be removing and re-installing them! One step in the installation is taking two pieces apart, which was not show or explained. This is the two covers that go on the right and left arm pieces. The rear stabilization bar can be installed in reverse, so be aware of that. Otherwise, installation was ok, I just didn't read and study it close enough. The picture graph that came with the screw box was a very good aide. Orient it with the box and it will go much quicker. All tools required were not provided, but, I only had to get two other tools from my supply. You will need two D cell batteries. If it becomes too much of a headache, a phone number is provided that you can call and set up an appointment for someone to come and put it together for you.

Marcy Elliptical Trainer Review

(More customer reviews)
I was trying to loose my baby weight and get back in shape after having our son and my (exercise addicted) brother-in-law said an elliptical was the best way to get your cardio in and burn calories. I researched for a couple weeks trying to decide which one to buy. I didn't want to spend too much just in case it became a coat rack as most exercise equipment ends up becoming. I also didn't want anything too huge because we have a small(ish) house. I finally decided on this one and am extremely satisfied with it. It was a little of a pain to put together, took me and my husband about an hour, but we kind of expected it to be. It has large foot pedals which is good because your feet tend to slip and seems very sturdy. After 3 months of (almost) daily use by 2 or more people it is still working great. It is relatively quiet (no squeaking) and moves smoothly. I like that you can change the resistant levels throughout your workout. You can really tell the difference when you move up a level! You do have to tighten the screws every now and then as they will start to loosen with the movement (we have only had to tighten them twice in three months). The only complaint is the computer calorie counter is WAY off. It says you burn like 1400 calories in 10 min which is hard to believe. Overall a great workout and great product.

Yes, I've given this thing a new name, because no matter how much you lube it, tighten it, or spray WD40 all over the joints, this thing is the noisiest most annoying piece of equipment.. ever. It was great for the first couple of days. And now it's all I can do to be on it an hour while watching TV (LOUD) without going NUTS. Don't bother with it, or anything by Weslo.

Kettler HKS EXT7 Elliptical Cross Trainer Review

Kettler HKS EXT7 Elliptical Cross Trainer
Average Reviews:

Great product overall. Very nice movement/ergonomics and sturdier than other brands in the same price range. Decent exercise program options but takes a bit of getting practice to get comfortable with the interface. It's worth the money as my wife and I use the trainer almost daily. The resistance band (magnetic) is really good; appropriate for beginners through the ultra athlete.
Now onto the "However"...the belt tension was not set correctly from the factory and it resulted in having to change the belt after 4 days of use. Customer service was VERY helpful and pleasant to deal with. Replacing the belt wasn't difficult just a nuisance to take the unit all apart. Finding the right tension with the replacement belt was tricky. Now the new belt is on all seems well. Hopefully that issue doesn't resurface. All that aside we are quite pleased with the product overall--small footprint, great stride length suitable for our height (I'm 5'10" and my wife is 5'7"), relatively quiet--although there's a small rattle that needs to be found, sturdy but not commercial (gym) quality sturdy.

Smooth Fitness CE-7.4 Elliptical Trainer Review

Smooth Fitness CE-7.4 Elliptical Trainer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Abstract:
So far this has been a big, solid and pretty fun-to-use machine at a relatively good price. DO NOT take any deals on used equipment offered by Smooth. A 10% discount is too small to justify the potential headaches. I had major problems with the purchase and initial mechanical failure of a used machine, which cannot be returned for refund.
Article:
I relied heavily on reviews like this one when I decided to buy my first elliptical trainer -- in fact my first exercise machine of any type -- so I'm hoping to return the favor.
When I started my search, I was drawn to the brand names I had seen in the gym, namely Life Fitness and Precor. I loved the way the gym elliptical got my heart rate up and my body moving without the pounding to my (overweight and out of shape) body I got on a treadmill. I was addicted.
I knew the machines were expensive, but was still not prepared for the sticker shock when I saw what even used Life Fitness machines cost - between 3 and 5K. At the same time, I knew for sure I wanted the feeling of gliding almost weightless on a big sturdy machine, not cranking on a man-sized eggbeater from Wal-Mart.
After some searching I came across Smooth. The consumer and trade-publication reviews I read were very positive in terms of the construction and design of the machine and by extension the quality of the workout. In choosing the non-consumer reviews I relied on (or put differently, avoiding scam reviews that might have been somehow 'influenced') I sought sites that immediately acknowledged the industry leaders I had been priced out of - Life Fitness and Precor in particular. If a review began by saying "Life Fitness is the absolute best you can get - IF you can afford it", and *then* went on to praise another brand on its cost/quality merits, I figured I was in the right place.
Smooth Fitness was generally well-liked by these reviewers; they were also generally pretty adamant about the fact that buying an elliptical machine priced less than $500 dollars was at best a gamble, at worst a rip. The better idea, they said, was to sink that money in a long-term investment (ie pony up the bigger bucks). I weigh 220 pounds and like to jump around on the pedals while listening to 200 bpm techno -- something made of plastic wasn't going to cut it. So I took their advice and chose to 'invest'.
The reviews I read kept coming back to one theme with the Smooth brand: machines that aimed for gym-quality construction based on sound design principles, offered at consumer-level prices, between $1000 and $2000. They said Smooth was an online-only vendor selling directly to the consumer, which in principle is one thing that allowed for the lower prices (as opposed to, say, cheap materials or shoddy workmanship). Since that initial research I learned that - if I understand correctly - Smooth machines are also sold under another brand name through more traditional outlets such as actual retail stores. I believe the other brand is 'EVO', and that the machines appear to be identical, just with different stickers on them. More about this in a minute...
All of this appealed to me - I was willing to pay twice as much or more for a studly machine that would last 10 years as opposed to 10 months. I'm a young-ish consumer who isn't afraid to conduct business over the internet, and the positive sense I got of the Smooth machines seems to have outweighed my natural desire to try a thing out before buying. It was at this point that I tried filling the experience-gap with actual consumer reviews, and started learning about the scatter-plot effect of unsolicited reviews...
Mostly people said it was a decent machine that ran well at the right price. But there were weird spikes in the data - one guy was homicidally furious about bad customer service and a machine that didn't work. One guy said he had turned the resistance all the way up and it still was pretty easy. A woman complained that her stance on the machine was giving her knee trouble. Ultimately I looked for the median in all this, and it seemed positive. Being an impulse-buyer, I was on the phone a short time later.
And this is where the one down side - and a pretty big one frankly - to the purchasing experience began. I got on the phone with a salesman. By which I mean a guy who wanted to sell me something - specifically something more expensive than what I was trying to buy to begin with. The story:
At the time of my purchase (January 2008), there were three levels of Smooth trainer that seemed potentially right for me: the CE 2.1, CE 3.2 and the CE 7.4. As the naming system implies, these are all in roughly the same family, with a higher number meaning a more robust machine. As the numbering implies, the 2.1 and 3.2 are very similar, with the jump to 7.4 being a bigger step up. You can read all about these machines at http://www.smoothfitness.com/ellipticals-machines/index.htm
As I said, I'm overweight and out of shape. You don't get that way being the kind of person who just has to get some exercise every day. Sure, I was jonesing for that good elliptical rush and wanted to be able to roll out of bed and get it without the struggle of getting to the gym. You can see that I live in constant oscillation between compulsion and sloth. I was sufficiently self-aware to acknowledge in the end that I was not likely to be on this thing every day, no matter how much I wanted to believe I would be. In any case, the top-end 7.4 was rated by the company as potentially able to endure use by multiple people on a daily basis (ie gym-level consumption), and by all known laws of physics I could not actually become multiple people. Also I live alone. So logic dictated that even a greedy feature-hungry guy like me should save the roughly $500 and go with the mid-range 3.2.
A note here about Smooth's pricing. I don't really fault them for it, but they use the term 'sale price' as though the machine were actually 'on sale', implying the price could go back up in the near future. This isn't really the case - just my experience based on roughly 8 months now of having periodically checked their pricing on these three machines. Since the winter of 2007 the prices have been pretty stable: both the 2.1 and the 3.2 hover at $1500 - the price difference being so small I wonder if anyone would buy the 2.1. The 7.4 is steady at $2000.
A note about 2.1 vs. 3.2. From what I can tell, these are the same machine, but with the 3.2 having a more sophisticated and feature-rich control panel. These things are very modular I've learned - I could walk over right now and in 30 seconds completely detach my control panel from the machine. In fact, my understanding is that the panels only have one fundamental interaction with the actual machinery, which is varying the current flowing to the electromagnet that controls resistance. You could (and I did experimentally) run all you want on the machine with no control panel hooked up, it just will be at the no-resistance level. Of course the panels do other important things like monitoring your speed, theoretical distance travelled, pulse rate (on some machines), but none of these things is properly mechanical. In fact, one of the things recommending the Smooth machines is that they operate on a very simple physical principle - in terms of the complexity of the machinery there's really not much to them. This is a good thing it turns out - it means less opportunity for things to go wrong, better performance and longevity.
You learn a lot about the machines when you buy Smooth, because you assemble them yourself, which also can mean troubleshooting your new purchase yourself...
So as I was saying, I had settled on the mid-range 3.2 when I got on the phone with Keith B., sales consultant. Keith upsold me, and I can't blame him for it, it's his job, and I'm a big boy who knows how to say 'No'. But I mention it because I didn't see actual salesmanly behavior coming from an internet-only operation, and it might catch you off guard as well.
As I said, Keith upsold me, and did it by appealing to my greed -- he informed me that for just $300 more I could get a used version of the illustrious 7.4 - that's a 10% discount. I'm the son of a salesman, and on the hard-sell scale I'd say Keith was at about a 5 (1 being apathetic McDonald's workers, 10 being a used car salesman), he wanted me to make the deal. And folks, deep in my heart I wanted the big boy, even though I had rationally made the conscious decision to be moderate, my primal urge was to get the biggest most expensive thing they had, and I did.
And frankly, for a 10% discount, the subsequent head and heartaches were just not worth it. I would have been better off spending the extra $200 and just buying the brand new 7.4. I'm going to be bold and tell you to refuse the offer I got if it is made to you. See, this is how I learned that the Smooth is also offered as "EVO" through the more traditional supply chain, because what I bought was some kind of store model or otherwise recycled EVO-branded 7.4 (I wasn't able to learn the actual story of the machine I bought - there were multiple used ones for sale). You can see where the EVO stickers used to be.
The deal I got was that the machine was covered by the same 5-year warranty as any other 7.4, *but* I waived right to the usual no-questions-asked return policy. I should mention that the warranty on these machines was another big selling point - 5 years on anything fundamental to the machine is a pretty good deal, better than you get on some cars, and is Hyundaiesque in how far it exceeds competitor's offers.
Anyway, the company operates out of King of Prussia, PA, two...Read more›

Very sturdy and went together easy. No squeaking. No problems with the design except for the abdominal pad. I wish it could be slid further in. Being short,it hits be above the waist and forces me to lean too far backward.I feel like I'm losing my balance.I just use it without the pad and get a good work out.

Merit Fitness 715E Elliptical Trainer Review

I am quite erratic when it comes to working out. I'll admit it. I've had gym memberships since I was a kid, and I have a hard time sticking to it. Right before I bought this merit elliptical, I had a $750 per year gym membership, and I hated going. I hated multiple things: the tvs attached to each machine, always broken. The idea of the germs, creeped me out. Also thinking I was being watched and judged..(and I can assure you, the boys were watching the girls in the hot pants and sports bra, not me, who was in an old band T-shirt and work out pants)well, its just not my bag of fun. So I figured I could get a few key pieces and make myself a little home gym. Then really, what excuse is there?(yes, I can still come up with some, but they tend to be a lot more ridiculous).
So I poked around and found this model in the 300 dollars price range. I went to a sporting equipment store to try a few out. I picked this one because it felt sturdy, smooth and comfortable for my 5'4 height, and I liked the price. I supervised my boyfriend putting it together -- ok, so I helped a couple times. It took under 2 hours. Now, I can hop on, watch my own tv, sweat to my hearts desire, and don't have to worry about my appearance or who's around me. If I'm thirsty -- I get a drink at my own fridge instead of paying a machine. Wanna wipe your face off? the bathroom is a hop and a jump down the hall. No more public ladies locker room with scary naked old women prancing around. To be honest, if you have at least a 5x5 space available to make a little work out area(this and a yoga mat and a few weights are all you need!), totally go for it. You feel a lot better when you're done, and this is 1/2 the price of a year at the gym. I've had my merit elliptical about 3 years now.
Some nice things about this model, I like the different tensions to choose from, and you just turn the knob. It takes batteries to run the little mile/time monitor. Easy as pie to understand. The only thing, the heart rate monitor doesn't give an accurate reading for me. So I just picked up an inexpensive heart rate monitor watch here on amazon. One small tip: keep the tracks clean, and you'll be smooth sailing. Sometimes dust or random stuff can end up there and trip up the smooth factor a bit.

Many elliptical trainers include an array of challenging programs, forward and reverse directional movement, EKG grip pulse handles, a lightweight portable design with easy fold-up capability, and a monitor displaying calories burned, distance, speed, time, and heart rate.
