Body Rider BRD2000 Elliptical Trainer with Seat Review

Body Rider BRD2000 Elliptical Trainer with Seat
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I ordered this based on the price and the fact that it had a seat as well as the arm bars I read the reviews of more expensive models and had a bit of anxiety towards putting it together. It only took about an hour and as long as you use your own tools and not the dollar store rejects they give you should have no problems.
I am giving this only three stars based on 2 things, First I am 6foot tall and when I use it as an elliptical its a bit tight and I do tend to punch myself a little when it comes back but I solved that by reversing them.
The other reason is also the handles being a little short. It feels like I'm punching downward instead of parallel. This machine is definitely designed for smaller men or women. but, besides that I do get a decent workout on it. Overall if you're looking for a value I would recommend this.

Enjoy a total body cardio workout without trudging to the gym day after day with the Body Rider BRD2000 dual cardio trainer. The BRD2000 is actually two fitness machines in one, with a pair of elliptical arms and foot pedals for upright elliptical use, as well as an adjustable seat that turns the machine into an exercise bike. As a result, users can vary their workout routines depending on the goals they're trying to achieve. The BRD2000 is built around a chain-driven fan wheel, with high-momentum fan blades that run quietly and smoothly without impacting your knees. (The fan also produces a gentle breeze as you exercise.) The electronic console, meanwhile, makes it easy to track your workout, with measurements for time, speed, distance, and calories burned. Finally, the unit's seat adjusts vertically and horizontally to fit users of different heights and weights. Too busy to hit the gym on a regular basis? The BRD2000 will help you see results in only 20 minutes per day three or four times a week.
About Elliptical Trainers Elliptical trainers represent the next wave of advancement in low-impact cardiovascular exercise machines and continue to grow in popularity. By simulating motions experienced through walking, stepping, cycling, and skiing, elliptical machines allow for a smooth and fluid motion while building strength in the arms and legs. Similar to the exercise position for treadmills, elliptical trainers are used by standing in an upright position while holding the handrails of the machine. With elliptical trainers, however, your feet remain in the foot pedals throughout the exercise regimen and circulate in a smooth and seamless motion, resulting in little to no impact on the knees, back, and hips.
Elliptical trainers are compatible for all ages and fitness levels and allow you to select the difficulty level through the incline and intensity settings. Additionally, elliptical trainers allow you to determine the complexity of your workout based on your needs, all while listening to music, watching television, or reading a magazine while exercising in the comfort and safety of your own home.
Although different types of elliptical trainers offer an assortment of features, many of them include an array of challenging programs, forward and reverse directional movement, EKG grip pulse handles, a lightweight portable design with easy fold-up capability, and a monitor displaying calories burned, distance, speed, time, and heart rate. Other types of exercise machines, namely treadmills and bikes, offer excellent cardiovascular exercise and muscular training for the legs in a forward-motion exercise. Elliptical trainers take this to the next level by offering an upper and lower body workout with dual motion, challenging and diverse programs, and a low-impact exercise machine that won't strain sensitive joints.

Lifecore LC-985VG Elliptical Trainer Review

Lifecore LC-985VG Elliptical Trainer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have owned a lot of exercise equipment, and the Lifecore LC-985VG Elliptical Trainer is a very good machine. Unlike some others I have tried, it has a very smooth action, is quiet, and is easy to use. It's also smaller than several other models I've tested, so it fits nicely in most rooms. Further, because it is lightweight and has two front wheels, it's easy to move.
The assembly instructions are not the best, but I've seen much worse. Regardless, it's pretty obvious where most of the parts go. It took me about one hour to assemble by myself, though it would be easier and quicker with two people.
Recently I moved the machine to a different room and one of the front wheel casings cracked. I don't know if this occurred because of a defect or because I went over a bump too quickly. I called the manufacturer (toll-free number) and received prompt and courteous service. When I bought the machine I registered it online, so my information was quickly found by the company representative. I described what happened and the representative was surprised because it was unusual for a wheel casing to break. Nevertheless, without any trouble he promised to ship me a replacement part free of charge (still under warranty). I called on a Friday afternoon and received the part on the next Tuesday. Changing the part (only one screw) was simple and took about two minutes. It's nice to know that there are still some companies that stand behind their products and provide good service to their customers.

As with all elliptical trainers, the LC-985VG also offers dual-action arm handles that challenge your upper body as well as your lower. As a result, you can get a total body workout in the comfort of your own home. And thanks to the Poly-V Flexonic drive belt and full-bearing system, users will enjoy a smooth, fluid motion as they pump the slip-resistant foot pedals.
To keep you motivated during your workout, the LC-985VG boasts a large multicolor console that tracks your time, speed, distance, calories, and more. Best of all for people with creaky knees, the machine's true elliptical motion improves your overall balance and puts less stress on weight-bearing joints. Schwinn 420 Elliptical Trainer Review

Schwinn 420 Elliptical Trainer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I ended up buying this at a local sports store and like the previous two reviewers was a bit wary to buy it because there were no reviews. I ended up finally buying it because of the reputation that Schwinn has with its other ellipticals and was not disappointed.
I had no difficulty putting it together by myself but it would be best to have two people. Thank you reviewer Toasty for informing me that the water bottle holder is not included. I'll stop searching my house for the damn thing now. I thought I lost it. The bolts, screws, and washers come on two cardboard sheets along with two wrenches and a hex/screw driver. You will have the screws left over for the water bottle holder. The programming was pretty straight forward until I got to the custom program level. I'm still not sure how I got past that screen.
The elliptical itself feels sturdy and well built. I am 300 pounds and it supports my weight without shaking or wobbling. The 18" stride and the handles feel comfortable for my 5'10" frame. I heard some complaints from the salesmen at the sports store that the handles were to far forward but I did not have that problem. The console is pretty basic but what was expected for the price.
Bottom line is if you are looking for a sub $600 elliptical that is well built, this is the one for you.

StairMaster 7000 PT Stepmill Review

StairMaster 7000 PT Stepmill
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I hate to exercise, but who wants to be fat? So I've been going to the gym for about 3 years now. That is where I tried the stepmill. At first I could only go a few minutes, but those few minutes kicked my butt! I gradually worked my way up to 30 minutes, and what a drenched mess of sweat I was in after those 30 minutes. You can do so much on this thing! You can climb sideways, working your inner thighs, backwards for your calves, and skip a step when going forward to really give your butt a lift. And then you can lift your leg out while stepping slowly for a stretch and a harder workout. On the cooldown, you can do calf raises, with just the ball of your foot on the step you lift yourself with just your calf muscles. Its an amazing workout, it burns the most calories in the shortest amount of time, and with all the different electronic workouts to choose from, it doesn't really get boring. It constanly tells you how many calories you're burning, how many floors you've climbed, etc. I bought a video ipod and watch movies while doing this and I've now gone for one hour, burning over 400 calories! But I've found good fast music really pushes me to go faster and kick my own a**.
I bought this machine because it is always being used at my gym and we only had 2 there, so for my bday, I bought myself one. It's outside because its so huge, but with a fan it's awesome!

About StairMaster In 1983, a Tulsa, Oklahoma company created a fitness training product line that stepped up exercise to a new level--StairMaster machines. The invention was credited for being "among the first machines to turn gyms into modern exercise arenas" by USA Today, the nation's most popular daily newspaper. Along with PDAs, laptops, and mobile phones, StairMaster machines have been labeled among the top 25 inventions that changed our lives over the past 25 years (USA Today, May 21, 2007). In fact, it was the only fitness product on the list.
More than two decades later, StairMaster products are still hard at work in gyms and homes preparing everyone from elite athletes to people in uniform, while being mentioned almost daily in the nation's news media and sitcoms like Seinfeld. Ed Viesturs, America's leading high-altitude mountaineer, relies on StairMaster trainers to prepare for climbs such as Mount Everest. "I do an hour on a StairMaster with a 50-pound pack on my back after simulating climbing movements in the gym," said Viesturs in Outdoor magazine. "These sessions hurt, but not as much as having to walk away from a climb because you weren't fit enough."
American hero Jim Campbell also looks to StairMaster trainers to maintain his physical readiness. A firefighter from Indianapolis, Campbell set the StairMaster StepMill record in 2006 (113.4 vertical miles in 24 hours). More than just a hobby, Campbell put his intensive training to use by rescuing a person trapped on the second story of a burning building--a feat that earned him a special commendation. Campbell joins thousands of firefighters who routinely train on StairMaster products to maintain top form. Are StairMaster machines a good solution for safe and effective lower body and cardio conditioning? Just ask each new firefighter candidate who must achieve 60 steps per minute for 3 minutes on a StairMaster StepMill while wearing a 50-pound vest and fire protective clothing ("turnouts").

Schwinn 431 Elliptical Trainer Review

Schwinn 431 Elliptical Trainer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
***Update 12/21/2007***
Well, I've had this machine for about two weeks now and it works great. I am completely satisfied with this purchase. I was a little concerned about shipping, but mine came in perfect condition. Like others, it took me little under 3 hours to put it together. If you can put a screw in and follow directions, you'll be able to put this together. The machine is so smooth and quiet. It's no problem for others in the room to watch TV at the same time. After a week, I started to notice a clicking sound and it turned out I had tightened the screw that connects the handle bar to the foot pedal bar too tight. Loosening it a little fixed the problem.
***Original review***
- I should start by saying I just bought the Schwinn 431 from Amazon, but haven't received it yet so my total usage of it is only the 15 minutes or so I spent trying a demo model at a store. However, I spent a lot of time demoing various brands and some of my research may help you decide what's best for you. My price point was also under $1000. You can definitely find better, but you'll pay for it. First, just some general things I found while demoing ellipticals.
* Machines with the wheel in the front seemed to have a better, more natural feeling movement than those in the rear.
* Stride length of 18" worked best for me (I'm 5'5"). Some low end models had 16" stride, but I found this to be too short. Others had 20" or 21" but these were too big for me.
* I don't think you'd want to buy an elliptical for less than $500. They're just too cheap feeling.
I narrowed my search to three brands, based on the reviews I read on Amazon and also on a website that has lots of reviews of treadmills and ellipticals ("treadmill sensei").
Horizon
Most chain stores carry the Horizon brand. I looked at two models: Horizon Ex56 (Horizon EX55 seems to be the older model) and Horizon EX66. These two are basically the same, with the EX66 just having a few more bells and whistles (i.e. more programs, etc.). I believe the internal mechanisms to be pretty much the same. These were well sized to fit into my smaller house. $600-$800. Overall, these seemed like a nice machine, and I almost bought the ex56, as I didn't think the extra $200 really gave me much more. The EX66 does look a bit more sleek and has 2 extra support legs that could provide better stability.
Sole
I wanted to try the Sole 25, but the store I looked at only had the next model up, the 35. These machines are a bit pricier, actually the 25 was "on sale" for $999 with a MSRP of $1999 (I don't think anyone every pays the MSRP though) and the 35 is more. Both have a 20" stride length, and this was just too big for me. For a taller person, this might be fine. The machine itself is bigger and I would have a harder time fitting it into my house. In general, the motion was very smooth. This seems like a well built machine if you have the space and money. Sole seems to have a pretty good warranty too.
Schwinn
I didn't expect Schwinn to make ellipticals. Actually, they don't. This brand falls under the Nautilus brand, which also makes bowflex, nautilus and stairmaster. I looked at the 430 and 431, (431 seems to be the later model and has more bells and whistles, like more programs, a fan and rubber pads on the foot pedals instead of just hard plastic ones on the 430, a bigger cup holder!). Consumer reports actually recommended the 418. The model numbering is strange, the 418 and 438 go together, and the 430 and 431 are similar. The 431 is smaller in size, about the same as the Horizon EX56. The price for the 430 is $600 and the 431 $800. I ended up going with the 431 (there is a promotion going on for a $100 gift card so that brings the price closer). In general both the 430 and 431 felt the same, except the rubber pads on the pedals did feel nicer with better grip for your shoes. This machine actually feels better than the horizon line due to the 25lb flywheel, vs. only 14lbs for the Horizon. This really makes the stride feel smoother. This machine also felt more solid than Horizon. The only problem with this brand is that it was hard to find a demo machine. Another potential drawback is the warranty, which is 15 year frame, 1 year parts, and 6 months labor.
Your best bet is to actually get on the machine and try them out before you buy! Good Luck!

I was a little wary to purchase this item bc there were no customer reviews on it and I have not heard of the company before, but after some research and talking to a few people at the local store, I decided to give it a try. This elliptical is the most comfortable one I've ever been on, and I have been a member to at least 3 different gyms in the past few years. It is very compact (fits in my tiny workout room that's already filled with equipment) while still delivering an amazingly long stride and arm movement. Right when I stepped onto this machine I could tell it was extremely well put together, very smooth, stable, and quiet.
I felt obligated to write a review on this item because the fact that not more people know about it is a total shame!

This elliptical was one of my Christmas gifts to myself. It works good although it does tend to squeak a lot after you have used it numerous times. Nothing D-W 40 can't fix though. It's sturdy and gives a good work out. It was very easy to assemble and is very light. The one thing I really like about it though is that it's not heavy and it can be easily moved from one room to another if need be.

This elliptical trainer is designed and built in Germany and is rock solid. Even purchasing probably the lowest end product, it is quality built. The monitor was confusing and the directions are not the best, but it is not so complicated that we can't figure it out. The noise level is non-existent. The footprint makes it possible to put in any room. The warranty was one of the best I found. I will reccommend this company and their products to everyone.

This trainer is quiet, takes up very little space, and can be stored in a closet. Assembly takes some hand strength. It is heavy, but if I can move it, anyone can. If you are afraid of falling over, set the machine by a wall or a cabinet and steady yourself with one hand. It will give you a good aerobic workout and really work the thighs and knees. If your knees are somewhat arthritic, count to twenty each time and rest for a few seconds. Listening to music or watching television helps pass the time.

New 2 IN 1 Fitness Elliptical Cross Trainer & Exercise bike Review

New 2 IN 1 Fitness Elliptical Cross Trainer and Exercise bike
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Its a good machine for the money. Nice and compact. Not too big except for the fact that the handles, from the bottom of the machine to the top, are about 4.5 feet tall. Also, you have to assemble it yourself. The wheel and the pedal turner, or whatever its called, is set up but you have to screw on the pedal pads, the stands that holds the machine up, and the handles yourself.
Next, do not handle the machine ruffly or it will break. I was sitting on the bike part, after a 30 minute workout on the elliptical, and bent over to the floor to get my cup of water. By putting more weight on the right pedal than I should have, it broke. It was easily fixed with some crazy glue but now there's an annoying ticking sound.
If you do a cardio work out anywhere from 1 to 4 times per week this is the machine for you. If you like to work out 5 to 7 times per week you would need something more sturdy. Hope this helps. Will be posting pics soon.

Ironman Achiever Elliptical Trainer Review

Ironman Achiever Elliptical Trainer
Average Reviews:

I purchased my ironman Adventure eliptical at a good price from [...]. Delivery and construction of the unit went smooth. However, when I went to testing it out, I quickly encountered a problem. Part of initializing this eliptical to work requires entering the year, month, day, and time. This is supposed to be done once, and the data is supposed to be maintained until the unit is unplugged. However, I would enter the data, and a few minutes later (without unplugging the unit) it would ask me to AGAIN enter the year, month, day and time. The data was not being stored. This data, along with the room temperature and some other things, are supposed to be displayed when the unit is in sleep mode, which is entered when the unit is unused for 5 minutes. However, my unit does not display anything in sleep mode, only a blank screen. I called Keys fitness (the manufacturer of ironman) help line. I was told (after some checking) that I apparently had one of the latest Adventure Elipticals. The older ones worked as stated in the owners manual. However, a screw-up was made during a software update such that the neweat Adventure Elipticals no longer works as stated in the owners manual. Rather than correct the problem, by updating the Software again to fix the bug they themselves introduced, I was told that they planned to issue a new owners manual stating that the way the machine works with the buggy software is now the "normal" operating mode. I see on some other web sites a new ironman elliptical called the Achiever. This looks exactly like the Adventure, with similar specs, but I think that it has the correct software mine should have. It's been about a month now and I'm still waiting for the new owners manual with the proper description of how my unit should work, including which features I've lost because of their error. I am totally disappointed in the way a large company like this treats quality issues with their products. My advice is if your considering an Ironman product or any other product by Keys Fitness Co, you particularly need to practice "buyer beware".
Other than the above issue, the unit is quite solid and I have no problems with using it to exercise and do get a good workout. The unit is quiet but not silent. I too (like another reviewer) get a click on the right side which is most noticable when working out fast with no magnetic resistance.
Update: (7/28/09)
To their credit, Keys fitness did eventually make the problems I described above right. I think it helped to keep calling them. The problems with the console not retaining data turned out to be a defective console. They never did send me the "revised" instruction manual. After I called several times to inquire about the manual, they had me send in the original console and sent me a new one, which worked. I was still bugged by the clicking noise on the right side though. I kept calling and eventually got a tech who could hear the noise as I exercised with him on the speaker phone. He had a professional service tech in our area come out and go through everything. Part of the problem was that I did not tighten some bolts enough during installation. Another problem was that one side of the unit did not have any grease and needed greasing. Ever since then the unit works liked I expected it to originally.

About Ironman Fitness Engineered for endurance, strength, speed, stamina, and performance, Ironman Fitness is continually striving to define the fitness industry. Their collection features top-of-the-line treadmills, stationary cycles, elliptical trainers, weight benches, and single- and multi-station exercise machines. The features on Ironman's fitness equipment introduced over the years have become the standards of today. With superior components, multiple patents, and award-winning products, Ironman's fitness products have consistently exceeded the expectation of customers and are the heart of a true champion.

Diamondback Fitness 500Er Rear Drive Elliptical Trainer Review

Diamondback Fitness 500Er Rear Drive Elliptical Trainer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
A few years ago I severed ties with my gym and bought an elliptical machine for home. This one in fact: Schwinn 438 Elliptical Trainer [Discontinued]. At the time I paid twelve hundred bucks for it. I moved to a smaller place and had to sell it.
Now, having moved to a larger place, I decided to buy this elliptical machine (heavily discounted as it is a model from a prior year). It cost me less than half of what I paid for the Schwinn in 2007 . There are more current versions of the Schwinn currently available. This for example: Schwinn 431 Elliptical Trainer, which is cheaper than the one I had, but seem to be of similar, if not better quality.
The Diamondback Fitness 500er, is vastly superior to my previous elliptical machine in terms of build, smoothness or any other metric I can identify; particularly in terms of design & looks. It is also superior to every other machine I have tried myself, which cost less that a couple of grand. Why there are no other reviews of it I'm not sure.
The box it came in was a bit beat up, but everything was well packaged inside and there was no damage or scratching. There are not too many parts to put together. Once I managed to haul it upstairs (It really is a two person job, but I was impatient), it took me less than two hours to have everything assembled. I'd recommending taking your time and doing everything right.
A mat for this to stand on is unnecessary; it has four silicone 'feet' (think of the stuff roller-blade wheels are made of), which elevate everything else an inch above the ground.
The machine is amazingly silent, unlike any other I have ever used, including the Precor or Life Fitness models I've used at the gym (which offer a superior workout, but cost ten times as much). Controls and programs are fairly standard, but nothing fancy; I like it that way. The heart rate monitor works, but I prefer having one on my wrist. The motion is smooth and silent. There is no variability or adjustment to stride length (which is ample), but it works fine for me and my wife; I weight over 250lbs, and she's about half of that :-)
I've only had it for a few days, but the machine currently seems to be built like a rock, no squeaking or twisting. I'm fairly amazed how good it is and give it 5 enthusiastic stars. I'd happily pay twice of what I did.
Keep in mind that a more current model is now available: Diamondback Fitness 510Er Rear Drive Elliptical Trainer.

Gazelle Edge Review

Gazelle Edge
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After trying out about a dozen different elliptical exercisers in sporting stores, I eventually bought the Gazelle Edge. It is a great little excercise machine but does have some short comings.
I opted for this one because:
1. PRICE: After trying out the ellipticals it became very clear that cheap ellipticals are incredibly uncomfortable to use. The motion on machines under $750 was either jerky or the short stride lead to the machine feeling more like a stepper than an elliptical. Many of the low line models were not all that stable. Of the mid-range steppers, I almost bought the Horizons E70 on sale for about $550 (marked down from the mid-$700s). This machine lacked a lot of options but did have the most natural motion I could find in a stepper in this range. Nevertheless, the motion on the Gazelle (they had the souped up Freestyle with thumb-pulse) was at least as good. The price on the Freestyle is about $200 on Amazon.com and the basic model is less than $100
2. REVIEWS: Canvassing the internet, the Gazelle had a high satisfaction rates on a number of websites, including Amazon reviews. The low to mid-range ellipticals appeared to have poor reliability ratings and most reviews showed low satisfaction.
3. BASIC MACHINE: It appeared to be a basic no-frills machine. If I was going to buy something at a low price range with few options, this one was as good as any other and far cheaper. It is also more light-weight and portable than any of the ellipticals I tried.
After purchasing, I feel like I've hit the jackpot. The machine was easy to assemble, given its simple mechanism and few working parts. It offers a reasonable, comfortable workout and is remarkably stable. It also folds down flat for storage and weighs only about 40 lbs. It also requires little room to use. The manual recommends 3 feet in front and behind the machine, but 2 ? seemed to suffice for me. So far my machine is remarkably smooth and silent. There have been reports of squeaking, but I have not experienced this. The manual suggests lubing the machine with vasoline if this occurs... Despite the fact that Tony Little makes annoying infomercials, I think he has a winner in this machine.
Nevertheless, it is important to realize that the machine has certain limitations:
1. This is NOT a $1,500 Nordic Track Elliptical. It doesn't have the programs, options, and fluid movement of a high-line elliptical trainer. If you want such a model, you will have to spend the money to buy one. That being said, this machine will not approach the smoothness/comfort of the expensive ellipticals and is really not comparable.
2. This is NOT an elliptical trainer. The motion is different, pleasant though it may be.
3. The machine has NO built-in training programs. You have to either buy Tony Little's exercise tapes or make up a program as you go along. I did not opt to buy these, so I can't comment on them. There are purportedly 7 different exercises that you can do on the Gazelle, but in reality there are only three that I can discern: You can `Gazelle in the neutral position, leaning back, or leaning forward. The other `exercises' involve different grip heights, letting go/swinging your arms at your sides, bending your knees for a lower/longer stride, and `gazelling' on your toes. The latter variations don't really count for me as different exercises, but that's only my opinion.
4. The basic machine has NO resistance adjustment. The `Freestyle' and `Pro' models appear to have hydraulic resistance that is adjustable to three levels. Having tried the Freestyle in the store, the hydraulic pistons did add resistance but seemed to make the motion a little less natural for me. Additionally, there was no way to adjust these while exercising. One would have to stop. Get off the machine. Adjust the resistance and resume exercising. Lower line ellipticals can be adjusted while exercising, the Gazelle cannot. Despite the lack of resistance, you can still get a good beginner to intermediate workout on this machine. It is certainly good for people just beginning a fitness program. I alternate aerobic and exercise training for 30 to 40 minutes, 6 days a week and have been doing so for over two years. I would consider myself to be an intermediate to advanced level and was able to raise my heart rate to the target range on this machine.
5. It has an INADEQUATE fitness computer. The fitness computer tell you your speed, how far you have `travelled', the number of calories burned, and the time on the machine. Being a skeptic, I think the only reliable feature would be the time and possibly `distance'. I'm not knocking the company. Knowing how much time you have spent on the device is my most important issue. I could imagine using the `distance' counter as a measure of when to stop the workout. I just don't know exactly what `speed' means or howe exactly it calculates `distance' traveled or how the device calculates the number of calories when it doesn't know your weight or the exact amount of applied resistance.
Having demoed the Freestyle, I don't think that the hydraulic pistons are worth the extra $100+ for the inexperienced Gazeller. (After a few months, I might change my mind about this but I don't think so.) You can also buy a number of other models which appear to have more heavy-duty tubing and extra's like water bottle holders. For my purposes, the basic machine appears to be just right. I wasn't about to plunk down more money for a cupholder or an advanced computer. The thumb pulse feature might be helpful to see if you achieve your target heart rate, but you can buy an inexpensive wrist monitor separately and use it when walking, jogging, or when you are one other equipment.
To my mind, the way to make this machine better would be to add a magnetic (or even friction) resistance feature that could be adjusted during exercise. It could be made even better by adding fitness programs that could adjust the resistance for you.
6. Despite the title 'Fitness System' the Gazelle is NOT a complete workout. This is aerobic exercise only and most professionals recommend some weight training to supplement aerobic exercise to maximize weight loss. Tony Little implies on his infomercial that the Gazelle incorporates strength training as well as aerobic training. Unless he is doing something different than is described in the manual, this is really only aerobic training.
I don't think there is a better machine at this price. The midrange ellipticals were very uncomfortable to ride and appear to have a lot of mechanical problems. I would strongly recommend actually trying out the machines in a store before you buy on line. The only way to know if a machine is comfortable is to actually try it.
If you are a more advanced exerciser, you might want to opt to invest in the bigger/expensive machines of the type that are used in gyms or by physical therapists. But if you are like me and want just a basic machine at a bargain price, this could be the one for you.

I bought it reluctantly because it was only $89.00 then I got $10 off so 79, but paid 44 shippping, total was 124.00. We put it together in about a half an hour. At first it felt like I was leaning forward too much on the down stroke so we put a 30 inch two by four under the front part of the frame. Cheap fix, excellent motion, I love it. Computer actually works the way I would have designed it myself. Glad I bought it, encourage anyone not wanting to spend a fortune on one to get this one.

Proform Razor 400 ES Elliptical Trainer Review

Proform Razor 400 ES Elliptical Trainer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased a Proform 400 series elliptical in December. Since December I have not had a properly working machine. It malfunctioned the first time I tried to use the machine. It was incorrectly assembled by Proform manufacturing and within the first use, I had an electrical malfunction. I made several attempts to contact their customer service (which is by far the worst customer service I have ever dealt with). After days of attempting to contact them and several times of being on hold up to hours at a time, I finally was able to have a service tech come out to take a look at the machine. Within three days of that malfunction being corrected a new problem began. I am a consistent exerciser and thought I could get away this time with buying a cheaper machine. Wrong, the only thing that is thinner is my wallet and the carpet where my broken machine still rests. Bottom line, poorly manufactured equipment and by far the worst customer service I have ever dealt with.

Fortunately, ProForm wasn't satisfied with treadmills, unveiling a complete line of exercise bikes, elliptical machines, weight benches, and more--all geared to providing the most effective workout available.

Ironman 1850 Elliptical Trainer Review

Ironman 1850 Elliptical Trainer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this elliptical on sale for $550 of amazon.com with free shipping! Walmart had discontinued it so I'm thinking amazon wanted to match their price at the time. After Walmart sold out, the sale went away on Amazon's site, but you can find other place for it discounted as low as $600-$700 if you google it and click "shopping" for the results. At this price, I still believe its a steal.
I opted for this because most ellipticals in my price range say they have a max of 225lbs or 250lbs. I have read and experienced many ellipticals at this range that become wobbly because even though they support this weight, overtime I do not believe they are made for someone like me at 215 lbs. So I wanted to buy one that supported 300 lbs and they were all out of my price range, until I found this one that is.
It is about 200 lbs and they dropped it off my door, so make sure you have a hand card to wheel it into the room where you plan to keep (and assemble it). Assembly is very tedious as with all ellipticals, but for the first half hour of install, you will need another person to help you balance the main wheel while you install the feet on the bottom of it. Taking a step back - the machine comes with a bunch of parts wrapped in plastic. I took out each and every part and grouped them together with the Left and Right piece (the machine is obviously very symmetrical).
I then took the large packet of screws, allen screws, nuts and washers of all shapes and sizes and labeled them while they were still in the package with a sharpee. The instructions use #s to reference the pieces, so after labeling the large packet of bolts, etc - I knew exactly what step #7 was asking for when it said "apply arm with washer #135 and allen screw #118". This sounds like a pain, but it shaved off at least an hour in my opinion. there are many allen screw that are just a 1/4 inch longer than another set, and if you confuse them, you will pay for it later because you will need that 1/4 allen screw you used way in the beginning. So pay attention, label your screws, and lay everything out in a circle around you and the base.
NOW: assembly solo was fine after the two person help with the base. When finished I started using the machine. Very quiet, nice. However, once I start picking up momentum with my weight, it starts making a banging noise that is a bit loud. It doesnt do this for my wife when she uses, and I believe there is an issue with the elliptical. I have been calling IronMan for TWO WEEKS and EMAILING THEM!!!! They have NOT RETURNED MY CALLS. I can live with the banging noise, and I believe this may be due to a bit of a dent in the box on shipping - I am not sure. The dent wasnt that bad, so I still accepted the package. For the money, the elliptical is great even with the loud sound on each rotation at high speed and high weight, but no wobbles, just smoothness. If I can get the noise gone, I feel like this was the perfect steal.
I am taking two stars away for the lack of phone calls returned or any support from IronMan. That is just poor represenation of the company. Its a shame because I believe the elliptical is beautifully engineered and that perhaps it was dropped in transit - so not the manufacture's fault. Its just their support is a voicemail service that says it is not business hours (even when it is) and to leave a voicemail. TERRIBLE.
IRONMAN, please get some competent people in your office for customer support - this item supposedly has a lifetime warranty but if I cant get a return call from IRONMAN support, I guess its not worth anything.

This elliptical trainer was another surprise for us (when you compare with other people's experiences). When we ordered it we were told it will take 4 to 6 weeks to arrive. The surprise: one week, good packaging again, nothing missing inside, no problem putting it together.
It works the way was meant to work. Good for average exercisers and has a seat to be used as a bicycle. Listed on Amazon for a max of 220 lbs weight for a person, but the manual lists it for 250 lbs max, which is good for me. It is a good construction, no noise, no wobbling.
