I'll start with the positives. The elliptical portion seems well made and is stable. The powder-coated finish is good. The finger controls are a nice touch and work well. The fan seems to work OK with the new console (see below). So far there are no grinding or otherwise unnerving noises that people report from time to time.
Now the negatives. It arrived with a broken console (factory tightened a screw too far and broke off the plastic stud it threads into). It took 7 weeks to get a new console and I was told to duct tape the old one together and use it. Not encouraging when I think of possible warranty claims. The console itself is a cheap piece of crap in my opinion. If you're taller than about 5'8" you either have to crouch down or lean back to read the console as designed. When I installed the new one I added some wooden wedges I cut to alter the console angle since it's not adjustable (on a $2000 machine?) and now I can actually read the LCD display. The fan on the first console had 3 settings and I saw no difference between them; the second actually changes speeds. Don't waste your money on the iPod docking station - it's only use for me is a place to rest the iPod while I use its earbuds. The speakers are tinny and cheap beyond belief. The heart rate monitor doesn't even come close to my actual heart rate. About the only thing on the console that I trust is the clock that counts down the time and the indicators for level and motion.
Bought this because my brother told me they're all made in Germany and rated highly. Mine says in LARGE letters that it's made in Taiwan. I believe it.
