(More customer reviews)There's a lot that I liked about this item. It displays either barometric pressure or altitude together with temp, humidity, and time all simultaneously; some digital altimeters show only one or two functions at a time, and require pushing a button multiple times to see all functions. The carabiner clip makes it easy to carry by clipping onto a belt loop, backpack, or wherever. However, it has some definite disadvantages compared to most other, albeit more expensive, altimeters. Most currently available digital altimeters process barometric pressure readings so that they distinguish between slow changes, which (generally) are due to normal variations in ambient barometric pressure, and more rapid changes which are normally due to changes in altitude; this device lacks this capability, with the result that over the course of several hours the altitude reading can vary over a range of up to 100 ft. or so just sitting on my desk at home. Also, most digital barometers display barometric pressure referenced to sea level; this is the baro pressure you get from weather reports. Unfortunately, this item only displays absolute pressure, without this correction.
Lastly, the problem that caused me to return this item is that the hygrometer is useless; I had bought this item specifically because it was the only altimeter/barometer that I found that included a hygrometer. It never read higher than 60% or lower than 40%, even though it was exposed to humidity as low as about 20%, and up to about 90%. (My determination of the true humidity was based on both local weather reports and use of a sling psychrometer.) What I don't know is whether this limitation of the hygrometer is a design problem, or whether I just got a defective unit.
